KIM TONG

I'M Delighted to tell you that

In May 2024 I showed Paintings in a show called WOMEN-COURAGE at the ROYAL SOCIETY OF ARTS X BEN OAKLEY GALLERY. JUST OFF THE STRAND IN LONDON, WC1

After the show finished Several paintings were  selected to be on a more permanent display in the main RSA house.

My lifelong subject matter has been 'The Sublime' which pivots on the Beauty/horror axis. A seismic shift has occurred, tipping the balance towards Beauty, Consequently my new large scale work,  explores a new format for mark making using new luminous colour  combinations. There  new are images of swans, poodles, Bambi,   floating in   gaseous oil colour, mazes of drips and glazes, creating a vulnerable fragile beauty.

There have been  several solo exhibitions AT BEN OAKLEY GALLERY, SKIN IN THE GAME 2022,  PAINTOPOLIS 2019, Vertigo 2016, and a two person show Compulsive Beauty 2014, and many man group shows at this  illustrious space.

see my instagram for current work in progress

The Pecking Order Etchings (see gallery) have now been published, alongside original 'Beat generation' Poets,Ginsberg, Kerouac, and GerardMalanga, who co-authored INTERVIEW magazine with Warhol, starred in several of his films, a fine poet  and photographer ......

Or so they say. This weekend, Dazed flew out to Lagos, Nigeria for the third annual MTV Africa Music.

Awards and spent a few days and some late nights meeting rap, R&B and kuduro superstars from across Africa: names like Banky W, Fally Ipupa, Daddy Owen, Cabo Snoop and Radio & Weasel, from Angola to Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and beyond, all huge stars in their own countries, selling truckloads of records despite rampant piracy and a rickety music industry. These guys are kind of the Jay Zs and Snoops of Africa, basically.

There ain’t no party like a Lagos party.
