Well it's not really news ! My lifelong subject matter has been 'The Sublime' which pivots on the Beauty/horror axis. Lately, a shift has occurred, tipping the balance towards  Beauty, Consequently my  large scale work, explores  mark making using luminous and unexpected colour  combinations. There are images of swans, poodles, Bambi,   floating in   gaseous oil colour, mazes of drips and glazes, creating a vulnerable fragile beauty.

Put simply, I love to paint, it makes sense of my world. When I am painting, I lose myself, I'm always surprised when I stop after a session of painting, I have no idea where some parts of the painting came from. It's really all about the paint, the joy of painting. Of course none of my paintings do I ever consider to be finished, there's always more to do, parts to obliterate, parts to bring into being.

I guess now, at this stage in my life, looking back, I know  my paintings will always be in an  emerging state , in flux, and that the most exciting part.

Just to paint.

Or so they say. This weekend, Dazed flew out to Lagos, Nigeria for the third annual MTV Africa Music.

Awards and spent a few days and some late nights meeting rap, R&B and kuduro superstars from across Africa: names like Banky W, Fally Ipupa, Daddy Owen, Cabo Snoop and Radio & Weasel, from Angola to Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and beyond, all huge stars in their own countries, selling truckloads of records despite rampant piracy and a rickety music industry. These guys are kind of the Jay Zs and Snoops of Africa, basically.

There ain’t no party like a Lagos party.
